Naval Studies

The ship design field of our activities is supported by “state of art” hardware and software packages and special purpose programs ensuring a high quality and timely completion of projects. The man power related to this sector not only includes our personnel but also specialized firms as may be required.
What you get

Study Preparation

Our personnel will visit you to establish exactly what type of vessel you are looking for. Typically, this visit includes inspecting existing vessels operated by you, discussing and witnessing the work to be undertaken by the new vessel and also investigating the area of operation and existent shore based support infrastructure for the vessel. All the original requirements are recorded according to our internal procedures.

Ship Specifications

Based on the information gathered by you, we will produce a detailed design and full technical specification outlining all the outfit and machinery to be installed in the new vessel. Complete weights make up and stability checks would also be undertaken at this point to validate the vessel complies with all stability and draft requirements.

The design and specification would then be forwarded to you for approval, with modifications carried out on the design and specification until you are completely satisfied by the ‘tool’ provided. Past experience highlights that time spent getting the design and specification correct at this stage can save a considerable amount of money during the subsequent build of the vessel.

Tender Preparation

By working under E.U. or other similar guidelines, a tender evaluation process is carried out and a list of potential builders is then produced. These companies are supplied with the full technical documentation and asked to provide quotations based on this itemized documentation within a given time scale. The advantage, of this approach, to you is that when the quotations are received back from the builder they are all directly comparable.

Contracts/Agreements
During the time the builders are putting together their quotations, we may also approach alternative main machinery suppliers to gather quotations and technical information such as fuel consumption figures, lubrication oil consumption figures, noise levels etc. We can then discuss this information with you along with the quotations received by the builders.

Once you have chosen the best package for the most suitable solution in terms of build costs and delivery, we are able to assist in the production of the ship building contract. This area provided us a lot of experience over the years while we always were and will strive to protect your interests.

Final Plans/Approvals
This stage involves the preparation of a full set of construction and outfit plans, which enables the shipyard to build the vessel exactly to the owner’s specifications. All plans are produced on CAD and forwarded to the regulatory authority or Class for approval prior to being issued to the shipyard.

Construction Process
During the construction process, we are able to offer build supervision on behalf of the Client, this can range from occasional visits to assess the build progress and handle the correspondence between you and the shipyard through to full supervision with staff permanently on site to oversee construction. Our services may also include upon the request “as fitted final plans” and further study modifications if required.

Delivery/Trials
On completion of the vessel, we can conduct full trials on your behalf to ensure that the she and all her systems operate correctly prior to final acceptance and hand over. This stage also covers any warranty issues that may arise during the guarantee period.
